The biggest mistake is comparing these on price. They are different kinds of product — pick the kind first, then the brand.

- It is a single trip with big non-refundable bookings: there is no cancellation cover at all. Its price rose to US$62.72 per four weeks in 2026.

- Actual trip protection — cancellation cover, no deductible and a 24/7 medical chat in the app.

- You are 70 or older, or a US resident planning a trip of 30 days or more (the age limit drops to 49).
None of the three covers pre-existing conditions, and every limit differs by country of residence.

Car rental
Compare desks — and read the Full Coverage fine print.
DiscoverCars compares 1,000+ rental companies across about 164 countries (Trustpilot 4.6 from 275k+ reviews). Two things to know before you add its Full Coverage:
It reimburses. It does not insure.
“Full Coverage” (about US$10 a day) is a reimbursement product. If there is damage, you pay the rental desk first, then claim it back from DiscoverCars within 28 days, up to about US$3,300. It covers the excess, glass, tyres, keys and towing — not interior damage, mechanical parts, cleaning or off-road driving.
The desk still holds a deposit.
Full Coverage is invisible to the local rental company: expect the hold on your card, and a hard sell of the desk’s own waiver. Declining it is fine — that is exactly what the coverage is for.

Skip the coverage if your credit card already includes a rental collision damage waiver (many travel cards do), or you cannot float the deposit until you are reimbursed.
Airport transfers
Prebook the ride — sometimes.
Kiwitaxi fixes the price when you book, tracks your flight and waits 90 free minutes after landing. It is worth it in four situations:
Late-night landings
Thin ride-hail supply and surge pricing at 1am are where a fixed price wins.
Groups with luggage
Five people with bags need a bookable minivan, not Uber XL roulette.
Child seats
Reservable in advance — nearly impossible with street taxis.
Scam-prone taxi lines
A driver holding your name beats negotiating at arrivals in an unfamiliar alphabet.

Skip it if you are travelling solo with a carry-on and landing in daylight in a city full of ride-hail cars: a ride-hail car will usually be cheaper, and that describes most trips.
Hotels
Flight first. Always.
Fares change by the hour; hotel prices change by the day and many rooms cancel free. Book the fare, then hold a refundable room while you plan.
Filter for free cancellation, book a safe option the same hour you book the flight, and keep looking: you can switch to a better room later at no cost.
